MAP Parish Centre 71-73 High Street, Campbell Town - Report June 2022
St Luke’s Church was designed by colonial Architect, John Lee Archer, and was completed in 1839. A vestry was added in 1930 and the interior extensively remodelled in 1957 and 1975. The church is heritage listed and of historical importance. It is especially so as it is one of the early churches in Tasmania built around the same time as Campbell Town’s Red Bridge. Whilst the church building once fulfilled its function well, the present church requires new facilities to enable it to continue serving the community well into the future.
The new Parish Centre will:
- Provide a welcoming facility that is open and accessible for all ages
- Provide essential facilities for the parish; toilets, kitchen, foyer and offices
- Offer comfortable spaces for fellowship, for youth and for children
- Provide a multi-function space and meeting rooms for the parish, rural ministry, not-for-profit groups and state-wide events
- Secure a long term future for the parish

Over the past two years the Parish Council have been working with 1plus 2 Architecture to produce a functional and sympathetic design. The building has been granted planning permission and the Parish Council are working with the Architects on the next stage of the design. However, the building will not become a reality without funding.

"Reaching and serving rural Tasmania is part of the Vision of the Anglican Diocese of Tasmania. Having a community facility right in the heart of the Midlands, for use by church and community groups, would be wonderful. I encourage you to support this venture."
The Right Reverend Dr Richard Condie (Bishop of Tasmania)
"Anglicare Tasmania supports the development of a Midlands Parish Centre at Campbell Town. The Anglicare team has more than 800 employees across Tasmania. Having affordable and appropriate facilities at a central location would be ideal for holding staff meetings, special events and training days. We regularly organise meetings in the region, but there are times we struggle to find a suitable venue.
Anglicare, as a ministry of the Church, works collaboratively with parishes in a variety of ways. Sharing resources such as the proposed Centre facilities, would be another opportunity for us to support local people and communities."
Bishop Chris Jones, Anglicare, Chief Executive Officer
